Posture and Object of Focus in Concentration

Before settling into the guided meditation, the group first reflects on the benefits they’re seeing from Shamatha (Concentration) practice —less internal noise and longer moments of clarity. There is discussion on posture, chairs versus floor cushions and fine-tuning hip-knee angles, hand positions, and back support for optimal ease. Attention shifts to the perennial challenge of mind-wandering: where it is noted to simply notice when the mind has drifted and to bring it back to whatever object they’ve chosen, whether breath, body sensation, or other object of meditation. This direct instruction underscores that the real practice happens in each moment of return. Inner-fire or tummo practice is mentioned where Geshe reminds the group that while powerful, it’s best approached only after building a solid, stable foundation in Shamatha.
